In the same folder, open Video Cards.sgr with the text editor of your choice. For example, stringMatch cardIdentity "ATI*HD 4800 Series*".Add your own card's name in the list, separating the vendor and the card with asterisks.Locate the line partialRule "Fast card" -any within the file.Within the installation folder, open Graphics Rules.sgr with a text editor. For example, if 10DE-1086 is the Device ID, 0x10DE identifies the card's vendor, and 0x1086 identifies the card. The "Device ID" is a number that identifies the card, as well as the manufacturer.Copy down what is listed as the "Device ID" as well as the card's name. This can all by automated/simplified by using the Graphic Rules Maker. 11.5.12 Area 5.1 Air Force Base No Exclusion Fix.11.5.6 Carpool Incentive Program Ordinance Fix.11.5.3 UV Map Fix for Maxis Monorail Models.11.5.1 Texture Fix of Jenkins Consulting.9.3 Error message: "Could not initialize graphics card".3.5.1 Experiencing issues on Apple ARM devices.God forbid, Steam actually try to promote those posts with real knowledge and suppress the posts of those with misleading or inaccurate information. but with some of the misinformation being shovelled in the faces of people asking for help being so woefully inaccurate, it's hardly surprising that this is the case. The game works, I'm so sick to death of hearing otherwise. So it's not as simple as copy/pasting these commands, each user will have varying requirements. You can't simply say this is a fix, you must change the specified resolution to one that both your hardware and the game can support. What if someone's display doesn't have that many pixels, adding this command will ensure the game can never start. r1920x1080x32 is great if you have a full HD display, whilst this is very common, not everyone does. Likewise, whilst I generally recommend -f (Full Screen mode), some users may need to use -w (Windowed Mode) instead to get the game to work. For example, do you actually know what -CPUPriority:High does? Nothing, absolutely nothing! Under modern Windows, the game can not parse that setting, verify this by opening the game, switching to task manager and you can see, the priority level is at it's default. ![]() Perhaps the problem, is that unknowledgeable, even if well meaning people like yourself, are giving out these 'fixes' as if they are generic and work for everyone. I guess nobody said it in this exact thread, so here. This is how people are avoiding any issues with the game. Originally posted by Flotch:Right click on the game in your library, click "Properties", then in the Launch Options bar paste all of this: One exception, the Mac version, which is full of problems. Perhaps your computer wasn't up to the job of playing the game back then?, perhaps you failed to install the patches? Perhaps you were using a multi-core system and hadn't told Windows not to force multi-core use? Who knows, but I can say 100% for certain that it was nothing to do with some different version, there are no different versions of SC4, the code has NEVER been updated. So, if your CD version was unreliable, it wasn't the disks or that identical version behind it. All that has changed, is that the DRM system has been altered, each 'seller' handles this differently, then the two official patches are now included by default. The CD version's code is IDENTICAL to that of the modern digital editions. If anything, it is MORE playable on a modern system, with the updated version!
